Nick Puncher Memorial – Hartleylands
Not a great turnout compared to last year, but just over 50 anglers.
Ryan drew peg 14 on Pear tree, which was 1 peg in from the corner where he had practiced earlier in the year. Mind you, that day had not been that great, and composed mainly of skimmers, with the odd small carp.
The peg was shelter from what little breeze there was, meaning the water was dead calm in front of him. The 2 end pegs had a lovely little ripple and looked as though that was the place to be. There were a few fish topping near the island, so hopefully he would be able to draw them his way.
Things started slowly, and never really picked up for him. Fishing long and shallow with banded pellet picked up the odd fish, but they just didn’t seem confident enough without that ripple on the water. We could see them swimming from the island to the margin, and back again, but even trying to mug them by dropping it right in front didn’t work.
Meanwhile to 2 guys on the end where going at it fish for fish, and this was nearly every put in. It was going to be close at the end between them 🙂
The last 2 hours he decided to go down the margin, and did pick off the odd fish on luncheon meat, but it was never going to be enough to put him near the top.
At the final weigh in he had 55lb’s, which wasn’t too bad considering his peg, and the 2 guys on the end were only separated by 2lbs. One with 128 & one 130. The winner overall was Geoff Vallence on Nick’s lake with 272lb. I am sure that with the right peg, and another years experience he do even better next year. Last year he had 26lb, so keep on doubling it Ryan, and in 3 years you will be on 300lb !!!!
