Mote Park match – 1st April
After a week of 20+ degrees, it has dropped to about 10, with a slight frost over night. Arrive at the main gate and have to wait for the gate to be opened by the council. Still gives us time to have a good chat with everyone, and hopefully start to warm up.
Set Up
Due to the low level of the water ( about 2ft down), Ryan was allowed to fish from the Wall with 3 others, drawing peg 3. As the water was so low, and all the debris close in, the only way to fish was on the feeder. 35g Drennan Flat method, 4lb mainline, and 2lb Drennan red maggot hook.
Ground bait was a mix of Sonubaits Chocolate Fish, 2mm pellet, and Green Swimstim.
All in 10:00
Out goes the feeder to lay some down, and really impressed with how accurate Ryan has become with the feeder. Starting off with double red maggot, it is the normal wait for the bream to move in. Have a swap over to sweetcorn after about an hour, but still no signs, although the sun has come up nicely and started to warm us up. About 11:30, and John on peg 1 has a 5lb bream, so looks as if they are starting to move in now, but no, all quiet again.
Change between maggot and sweetcorn, finally just sticking to a 1 red maggot, and 1 krilled dead. Can’t see much happening over the far side of the lake, only hearing someone has just lost a nice bream. 2 o’clock, and only 1 hour to go, when round goes to tip. It takes a slight lunge, and off it comes. So back in again, and after 10 mins, off it goes again. This time taking it easier, he finally lands a beautiful dark, 6 1/2LB bream, watch by quite a crowd out and enjoying the sun. Mum arrives with his brother Chan with about 30mins to go, just in time to see another thump, and he is in to another lighter coloured bream about 5LB’s.
Result
Hearing that only a few have caught, Ryan is looking to be in with a good chance of finishing well up, and when he next to last to weigh in, I can see that he is going to be in second place. All confirmed, he is second, and never seen such a big smile as Mum takes him off for a well deserved ice cream.
Match Report by Medway Mick
Our penultimate club championship match at Mote Park attracted 12 anglers. After a cold start the sun broke through and it was around 14 degrees with light winds. After fishing really well in the warm days last week, many anglers struggled with only half the field managing to catch a fish and to my knowledge not one roach was caught.
Lou Buells continued his recent run of good form, landing Bream on the feeder to weigh in 23lb 15oz from the golf course side near ‘the oak’. In 2nd place was the new kid on the block, young Ryan Kennison, who landed two monster Bream from the wall to weigh in 11lb 4oz. Bob Turner made up the podium positions with a 7lb Bream and a Perch for 7lb 5oz.
