Mote Park
Finally a break from the rain, and we head off to Mote Park on a dry Sunday morning at 07:00. As the car park doesn’t open until 08:00, we park at the leisure centre and walk down to the lake opposite the boats. Not looking forward to the long walk back up the hill at the end, but at least I get a chance to fish today.
After setting Ryan up with the waggler to the left in the small bay for hopefully a few roach, I set up the feeder to go after the bream further out. Ryan quickly catches a couple of roach as he comes in a bit closer, and he then decides to fish with the pole as they seem to be feeding around 25ft out.
He continues to catch steadily with mainly roach, but the odd perch and skimmer, all caught on double red maggot. I catch my first roach on the feeder using a single worm, and follow this by a couple of perch, but very slow compared to Ryan, who is still pulling in some lovely roach.
I decide to change to the waggler, and it’s not long before I start catching roach at the same rate as Ryan, before I strike in to something larger, which snaps me up straight away. After setting up again, my swim seems to have gone quiet, but do find the odd skimmer by moving in and out.
It is a lovely afternoon, as we are still catching through the normal quiet period between 12 – 2, and this continues for another 3 hours before we decide to head home. I manage to lift my haul of around 50 fish, which weighs about 16lb in total. Forget about trying to lift Ryan’s, but with around 140 fish, there must be at least 30lb+ in all.
What a fantastic day, and will certainly be back again soon, and may be have a few of the nice bream like the ones Ryan caught in the match here.
