It all starts here
Well hello all.
Following a good result in only Ryan’s 3rd match, I have decided to keep a record of all “our fishing” activities.
Contrary to popular belief, I have and do also fish, but obvious not as well as Ryan.
I started fishing many moons ago, when I was probably about 8. Dad bought myself and my brother a 6ft rod kit each, and he took us fishing to a local little pond in Southborough, Kent. Can’t remember if I actually caught anything, but that is where it all started, as they say.
I spent most of my “Teens”, amongst other things, at Tilgate Lake in Crawley with a few mates in the school holidays and at weekends. After selling most of my gear to buy a moped at 16, fishing was forgotten, and rugby really took over.
I tried getting back in to the sport on a number of occasions, but never really had time with one thing and another. It all really started about 8 years ago, when my eldest son Chanan wanted to go night fishing with one of his friends. We had a few good days out, and picked up a little bit of tackle over about a year, but after his friend moved to Australia, and a really cold session at the original Monk Lakes, he lost interest to football.
Two years a go, we all decided to have a lads day out at the new Monk Lakes, and that is where Ryan seemed to pick up the bug for it. Chan enjoyed the day, but has really stuck to his football.
We had quite a few sessions at Monk Lakes, mostly on the match lakes, and also at Chart Fishery where we had a nice 18lb Mirror.
We then decided to join the local Maidstone Victory club, as we are right next to a couple of their waters ( Mote Park, Great Danes) last October, and have regularly fished at the Great Danes.
New Years Day
We found that there was a float only club match being held at the Great Danes on 26th Feb, and Ryan said he would like to fish in the match. I was a bit concerned that he would not enjoy it, or get bored, but what do I know. He loved it, and won the junior section. It all starts from here.
