Hartleylands, Nicks
It’s been a bit cold out recently if you hadn’t noticed, so not done much fishing, and was good to get out in the sun eventually. Having said that, there was still quite a chilly easterly blowing.
We set off for Nick’s lake to get back in to the swing of things. Arriving at 10:00 after a nice breakfast in the Knoxbridge cafe, and set up on pegs 6 & 7 of the point. It was very quiet, with only one other angler on the lake, nice enough chap, but could have done without his life story 🙂
Ryan was soon set up with the pole at about 11m, and fed a couple of pots ( maggot, micro pellets, sweetcorn), with a single red maggot on an 18 hook. The target was to start on the silvers, which would hopefully encourage the carp later on.
After about 30mins, Ryan was in to the first skimmer, which was followed steadily by a few more and eventually roach.
I eventually got set up around 11:30, and fished the whip at 6m with maggots. By this time, Ryan had caught about 15 silvers, and was now in to his first carp of around 3lbs.
As Ryan steadily caught a mixture of silvers and carp, I was not getting anything on the whip, so changed on to the pole at around 8m out, as the wind was quite gusty in my swim. I was soon catching small roach, followed by the odd carp of around 2lbs.
The fishing continued well until around 2pm, when it started to go a little quiet after Ryan caught a lovely fish around 5lbs.
Ryan set up the feeder, and fished to the corner of the island, having almost a fish a cast for the last 1hr 1/2, before we decided to call it a day. I had around 25 fish in total, for around 15lb, and Ryan must have had about 60 fish for about 30lb. Not a bad day for the first bit of sun of the year in April.
