Cornwallis School Sports day – Hartleylands
I was unable to take time off this year for Ryan’s School sports day on Nick’s lake at Hartleylands. With limited space on the coach, it was case of taking just the minimum (no seatbox), which would be a couple of top-kits and a number 4 off the pole. Hopefully they would be around the margins, or short.
The match was a walk-off, so he quietly headed for peg 24 which he fancied for the margin fishing. With 2kg limit on bait, he went all out for 6mm pellets, and at the start of the match(9:00), fed 3 lines. 1 to each margin, and straight out at 4m (top 2 & no4).
He said that he started catching straight away down the margin, and constantly feeding all 3 lines, he rotated them by catching 1 fish and then moving to the next line. This way he felt he would be less likely to foul hook fish, which would be hard to handle without a seatbox/pole/rollers etc. As the match went on, he found they they were starting to come up in the water, which is what loves best when carp fishing. Having to only stop for a quick sandwich, he said that it was just one fish after the other, and he had lost count after the 20th which was about 45 minutes in to the match.
The end of the 4hrs at 1pm, and he confessed to being absolutely shattered, not helped by sitting in the wind & rain yesterday at Rye for just 9 ounces. We won’t talk about that, but needless to say, it wasn’t a good day.
After having to weigh-in twice (103 lb & 51 lb), he was chuffed to bit with his highest weight in a 4hr match, a total of 154 lb’s, with second place 52 lb.
Well done mate, and he’s now watching the Fisho-mania final 🙂
