Chart Fishery – 24hrs
Arrived at 8:30 on a slightly drizzly morning for a 24hr session with Mark, Sam, Tim and Mick at Chart. Already quite a few fishing, but found 3 swims ( pegs 22,23,24) in a row to the left hand side near to the car park.
The carp were not yet feeding on top, but with the forecast of it warming up (plus a lot of rain over night), it wouldn’t be long before they started to show. Set Ryan up with top 5 to a NG Gimp, fished on the bottom ( 3ft deep) with a 6mm Marukyu pellet, and threw in plenty of loose feed.
Getting a few small bites and losing a couple in the first 30 mins, but nothing really moving about on the bottom, so start to trow in a few floating dog biscuits to see if they feed up in the water. Sam has had a few small fish on maggot, and the odd carp but still a little slow. After a while we see the floaters beng taken as the carp come up in the water, so I set up a 6AAA NG pellet waggler set to 6 inches deep with a 14 Drennan powerbandit. Decide to try out the new Bait-Tech 8mm Carp Fishmeal pellets, and catapult out a few pouches every 30 seconds for about ten minutes, before casting the float for the first time.
BANG, straight in to the first carp of the day. They seem
to be coming up in the water, so continue to feed regularly and this really starts to get them then on the feed as Ryan is getting bites every cast. He is hooking in to them quite regularly, and they are all around 2lb – 4lb. It’s now 11am, and we have had about 12 carp on the waggler
Mark and Sam have started to catch on the surface with dog biscuits as the weather has started to warm up, and the sun is appearing now and again
I set up another rod with a small 10g controller float and a 2ft leader to a size 12 Drennan powerbandit, with a dog biscuit, and start fishing it out about 20ft. As usual they seem to take the free biscuits quickly, but shy away from the one with the hook. As more free ones are thrown in, they are getting more confident and eventually one takes the hook bait. A nice 5lb common carp.
We continue to catch between us on the waggler, and on the top now, as things really pick up.
It’s now about 4pm, and Tim has arrived as Ryan, Mark Sam and I continue to catch plenty of fish. They really are feeding fast now, as Ryan and I have now caught over 30 fish between us. This continues as Tim starts to catch now, until Mick arrives at 6pm with bags of chips for everyone, so we have a nice break and chat for a while.
As there seem to be a few swirls in close to the edge where I have been feeding all day, I set up the top 2 pole kit with an NG .2g margin float, and start to fish about 2ft out just next to the hanging braches with some paste. As there can be a lot a small fish in close, i put the paste around a 6mm pellet, making a ball about the size of a small walnut. It doesn’t take long before the float shoots under, and I hook in to a nice 7lb mirror carp which takes about 5 minutes to land. Ryan likes the look of fishing this way, so I hand the pole over to him while I start to get some groundbait made up for when it gets dark. He catches 2 more carp, both around 8lb’s, and says he is really enjoying this method of fishing. Then he hooks in to another fish, which I can tell is nice, as I see a large tail flick as it heads out in to the open. After a good 10 mins it gets in close, and I manage to net it. This is a very nice fish, and Mark comes over to weigh it for him, as my battery has gone in my set of scales.
One happy lad, with his new personal best with this 13lb Mirror carp.
As it gets dark, and Ryan is still smiling about his fish, we start fishing with the method feeder out to 30ft with 2 hair-rigged 8mm Robin Red pellets. After a couple of casts to get some feed out, the bites come quickly, almost as soon as the feeder hits the bottom, and we have another 11 fish before it starts to rain fairly heavily just after 10pm. We head of to the bivvy to take shelter, and settle down for some sleep.
Well after a the thunderstorms, lightning and torrential rain, I am up at 5:15 and it is a miserable drizzly morning. The cover has blown off the groundbait, so I knock some more up and start fishing the feeder. As soon as the the first cast settles on the bottom, I am in to a carp. A fish every cast now, and after 10 fish, Ryan is up and I hand over to him while I put the bacon on for our breakfast, while helping Ryan land fish in between.
Everyone is catching now, and after a nice bacon roll I start to pack up the gear as the rain starts to fall a bit heavier now, having to stop every few minutes to help Ryan land more carp.
It has been a great session, and we have all caught well. I have had 36 fish and Ryan has landed 65, but time to head home and dry off now.
