Autumn Cup – Ringles – 30th August
Finally a dry day, and good conditions being overcast with a slight breeze. Well it should have been ideal conditions, but the fish had other ideas it would seem.
The normal 6 lads fished, with Ryan drawing peg 5 this time.
It looked as if it might be a good day from the way things started, as he had 2 carp within the first 10 minutes on corn fished to the left margin, but after the second one, it just seemed to go dead, with only the odd roach, rudd or perch showing.
Time to go out on the longer line at about 8m to try for the nice rudd, but could only pick off a few small ones and having to wait a long time for each bite. Ryan decided to go back down the edge, and swapping between corn and paste, managed to catch carp slowly, plus a nice roach of about 10oz.
At the end of the 4hrs, he had 14 carp in total plus about 2lb of silverfish, including a small tench.
He weighed in 29lb 8oz, with second weighing in 13lb 2oz, and third place 12lb 10oz. A very good weight considering that the winner in the senior match the week before won it with only 26lb in their 7hr match.
Only one match left in the series on 13th September, but most practice will be on the river now in preparation for the Kent Championships on the 14th.
