Angling Trust/Preston Innovations National Junior League – Final Round – Marsh Farm, Richardson Lake June 4th 2016
With three anglers within 4 points of each other, this final round was going to prove decisive for one of them and with the lake fishing erratically it would be anyone’s guess as to who would take the winner’s slot.
As it happened, an outsider won the day with a super haul of fish. Late entrant Ben Barnett drew peg 11 and concentrated his efforts on fishing maggot on the bomb to take 3 bream and 3 tench for 16lb 1oz. This is the first time Ben has actually won a complete match, although he has won his own age group in one of the GAS junior matches before. He included PB’s in both bream and tench and was ‘over the moon’ at the end.
In second place and ultimate league winner was Ryan Kennison, who’s 8lb 10oz catch included skimmers and a couple of crucians to the pole. Ryan’s two previous wins and this second gave him a solid 10 point lead over the day’s 3rd placed angler, Ethan Etherington.
Ethan took a big bream and a couple of smaller bream to pole and waggler for 6lb 15oz and secured his place in the final top three league positions.
Just missing out on a top three finish was Myles Andrews, who nevertheless managed 6lb 3ozs of bream and skimmers for fourth in the match.
In fifth place, just two league points behind Ethan, was Daniel Wallace, who took a couple of tench on the bomb for 3lb 15oz.
The league showed how important it was to get the right tactics at the right time, even though the venue had fished inconsistently throughout the series due to weather variations. All the juniors gave their best in the competition and it’s hoped that next year we will see more juniors participating in this wellcomed national event, run throughout the country’s regions.
Congratulations to all who fished and good luck in particular to those who will go onto a national final.
